Polished rings lie one inside another, in one plane, edge to edge, oiled, no gap in-between. The needle on the inner ring lies in the same plane, flat, the tip closed against the ring. Light strikes the metal and returns at the angle from which it came. Under the frame the floor is tiled, the joints scraped out, pale and dry.

A dark bowl, inside without light at the bottom. Above its center hangs a heavy, clear sphere, and on the inner wall damp tracks run down from the whole rim and meet at the sphere. The sphere lets a smaller tear go. The tear is cloudy, with bright grains in it. It strikes the dark bottom. Where it lands, a pale point stands, and the darkness around it remains.

The lower edge of the weave hangs over dark earth. A thread has come loose from the last row and hangs down, taut to the topsoil; there it is dull and dark. The earth is shown in section. Beneath the topsoil the thread goes on, at first still twisted, then untwisted into single fibers that grow lighter and thinner and branch off sideways, until they can no longer be distinguished from the white root-threads beside them. Above, in the weave, a stitch is missing at this spot. The hole is small and clean.

Two linen threads lie crosswise on a dark board, the ends taut, the fibers drawn bright at the crossing. A needle-tip sits on the point where they overlap, and has not pierced the cloth. In the angle lies a clear drop, heavy enough to press the linen into a hollow, still round. In it the board stands, small and upside down.
